Defense wins championships

Interesting note given the discussion/speculation about Pelini: LSU was locked in a dog-fight with Tennesee in the SEC championship game today and in the end the game-(and championship-) clinching TD came from Bo Pelini's defensive squad. If Pelini is indeed hired by NU, this has to be good for confidence and for recruiting defensive studs. Never underestimate the power of recent studliness when dealing with impressionable recruits. Regardless of whether Pelini is hired or not, it is just another illustration that you can have all the gizmo-gadget offenses you want, but you need a great defense to get you championships. But then again, NU fans (and good football fans everywhere) have known this for decades now. v.
