National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
Tomorrow, February 7th, is the 7th Annual National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD). This is a day that has been set aside to help raise awareness of the AIDS epidemic in the African American community which has been hit particularly hard by HIV. In 2005, African Americans made up 13% of the US population but accounted for 49% of the newly diagnosed cases of HIV. AIDSinfo has compiled a list a resources related to this day on their own National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day page. Check it out and please share with someone you know. HIV in the African American population is an especially large issue for us in Northern Virginia as DC has a higher HIV infection rate than most sub-Saharan African countries! So, please, spread the word. Knowledge can help defeat the scourge of HIV. Labels: HIV/AIDS |
