Turkey v. PKK Update 8.8.2006
It was a busy weekend for the PKK as new attacks occurred in Turkey. There was no indication (in what I read) if these attacks were from across the Iraqi border or carried out by Turkish Kurds but, to some extent, that is a distinction without a difference. In addition to closing down PKK offices, Iraqi Kurdistan announced that it will start a detention camp for PKK members who are fleeing the organization. They are doing this to placate the Turkish government and avoid a more open conflict (with the Turks and the US-let's hope it works). I finally found some mainstream (American) media coverage of this conflict and it's potential ramifications for Turkey, Iraq, and the US in the LA Times (about a week old).
